Remove an Android phone from account and protection only after a legitimate handover and verified factory reset.

Prepare the device

  1. Back up and transfer data.
  2. Remove Google and manufacturer accounts through Settings.
  3. Factory-reset through the supported menu.
  4. Remove SIM and memory card.

Check the account

Review the Google account’s device and security pages and sign the old phone out where appropriate. Manufacturer services may have a separate device list. Do not erase or remove a phone from the wrong account.

Lost versus sold

A sold phone should be released correctly for its new owner. A stolen phone should remain protected while you use Find Hub, report the loss and decide whether to erase it. Do not unlink a stolen device in response to a phishing message.

Verify

  • The setup screen appears.
  • No previous Google account is demanded during legitimate transfer.
  • The replacement phone retains access and recovery methods.
  • The old device is no longer a trusted sign-in route.

Remove it only for a legitimate handover

An Android phone should leave the owner’s device list only after data transfer, account removal and reset are complete.

  • Confirm the replacement device and account recovery work first.
  • Remove Google and manufacturer accounts from the handset before reset.
  • Do not use account removal as a substitute for remotely securing a lost or stolen phone.
