Transfer the number first, then remove the physical card or delete the old eSIM only after the new line is working.

Physical SIM

  • Power down if the phone maker recommends it.
  • Use the correct tray tool and hole.
  • Remove the SIM and any microSD card.
  • Keep or destroy the SIM according to the provider’s advice after porting is complete.

eSIM

An eSIM profile is not removed merely by wiping some apps. During factory reset, the phone may offer to keep or delete eSIMs. For a sale, the old profile should normally be removed, but only after the number has been transferred or the provider has confirmed replacement.

Check the new phone

  1. Make an ordinary outgoing call.
  2. Receive a call and SMS.
  3. Test mobile data.
  4. Confirm the correct number appears.
  5. Verify banking and 2FA messages.

What deletion does not do

Removing a SIM or eSIM does not necessarily cancel the mobile contract. Close or change the account separately with the provider.

Confirm the mobile service moved, not merely disappeared

Removing a SIM or deleting an eSIM does not close the tariff and may destroy an easy recovery path.

  • Test calls, SMS and mobile data on the replacement phone.
  • Keep the old profile until the operator confirms the transfer is complete.
  • Remove physical SIM and memory cards before handover, then review the account for any remaining line or device finance.
