There is no reliable universal “sign out of everything” button; work through system accounts, apps, payment services and remote device lists before reset.
Make an inventory
- Apple or Google account
- Email accounts
- Banking and payment apps
- Messaging and social apps
- Password manager and authenticator
- Work or school management
- Network account
Sign out in the right order
- Back up required data and protect recovery methods.
- Sign out of sensitive third-party apps.
- Remove work profiles or contact the administrator.
- Sign out of the Apple Account or remove Google accounts.
- Remove payment cards and review device lists.
- Factory reset only when handover is intended.
Watch for local copies
Signing out may ask whether to keep contacts, calendars or files on the phone. For a handover, do not leave private local copies. For continued personal use, understand what will be removed before confirming.
Verify remotely
Afterwards, review Apple/Google account device lists and important service sessions from another device.
Account sessions can survive elsewhere
Signing out on the phone does not end sessions on tablets, browsers, watches or smart TVs. Review the remote device and session list for each critical service as a separate final step.
Use a service inventory because sessions exist beyond the handset
System accounts, banking apps, messaging, work profiles, watches, browsers and smart TVs can maintain separate sessions. Signing out from the phone does not automatically end all of them.
- List critical apps and accounts before changing anything.
- Preserve backups, 2FA and password-manager access.
- Remove work management and payment credentials through their proper processes.
- Review remote device and session lists from another trusted device.
For a permanent handover, finish with the platform’s correct account-removal and factory-reset sequence. For temporary troubleshooting, avoid destructive sign-out from services that are difficult to restore.
