Treat photo migration as a verified copy operation, not a single switch followed by immediate deletion.
Before upload
- Check which account will own the library.
- Confirm enough cloud capacity.
- Connect to stable Wi-Fi and power.
- Keep the phone unlocked or app active if the service requires it.
Verify the result
- Wait until the service reports no pending uploads.
- Open the library in a browser or second device.
- Check old and recent dates, videos and edited photos.
- Confirm original quality if that matters.
- Keep a separate copy of irreplaceable photos.
Avoid accidental deletion
In a synchronised library, deleting a photo on the phone can delete it from the cloud as well. Use the service’s “free up space” or optimisation feature only after understanding what remains accessible offline.
Plan for travel and low data
Large photo libraries can consume significant upload data. Pause mobile uploads while roaming, and do not assume a hotel Wi-Fi connection is fast or private enough for a complete migration.
Verify the cloud copy independently
Do not delete local photographs just because an upload icon disappeared. Confirm that the originals are available through the cloud account itself.
- Open recent and older images from another device or browser.
- Check full resolution, videos, Live Photos or motion photos, and album organisation.
- Understand whether deleting locally also deletes the synchronised cloud item before using any “free up space” command.
