Free space in a controlled order: identify the largest category, preserve anything irreplaceable, then remove local copies only after verification.
Start with evidence
Open the phone’s storage screen and note the largest categories. Photos, videos, downloads, messaging attachments, offline media and large games usually matter more than clearing small caches.
A safe order
- Back up important photos, documents and recordings.
- Delete completed downloads and offline media you can download again.
- Review large videos and messaging attachments.
- Offload or uninstall unused apps.
- Empty Recently Deleted or bin folders only after checking them.
Cloud storage is not automatic protection
Confirm that uploads finished and open several files from another device or browser before deleting the originals. “Optimise storage” may retain smaller local versions, while a normal cloud-sync service can also synchronise deletions.
Leave working space
A completely full phone may fail to update, take photos or create temporary files. After cleaning, restart the phone and confirm that storage reporting, camera, messages and important apps work normally.
Use a low-risk deletion order
Start with content that can be downloaded again, then move to reviewed personal files. Do not begin with messages, authenticator data or an unverified photo library.
- Remove completed downloads and offline media first.
- Offload unused apps where supported instead of deleting their documents blindly.
- Recheck available space after each category so that you stop once the phone has a useful margin.
