Modern phones manage charging automatically. Focus on safe equipment, moderate temperature and a routine that is convenient rather than chasing a perfect percentage.

Good everyday practice

  • Use a reputable charger and undamaged cable that meet the phone’s required standard.
  • Keep the phone ventilated while charging and remove a case if it traps excessive heat.
  • Enable optimised or adaptive charging where available.
  • Charge when convenient; frequent partial charges do not normally harm a modern lithium-ion battery.

What matters more than 20–80 rules

Heat is usually more damaging than an occasional full charge. Avoid leaving the phone in direct sun, on a car dashboard or under bedding while charging. A phone may pause or slow charging when it is too hot; allow it to cool naturally.

Fast and wireless charging

Fast charging and wireless charging are supported features, but both can produce more heat. Use them when useful, and switch to a slower wired charge when the phone is already hot or will remain connected for many hours.

Stop and inspect

  • The cable or plug becomes unusually hot.
  • Charging repeatedly disconnects.
  • The battery or case swells.
  • The port contains debris or liquid.
  • The charger is damaged or unbranded with no safety information.

Judge the whole charging setup

A healthy charging routine depends on the battery, charger, cable, temperature and daily schedule rather than one magic percentage.

  • Check that the charger and cable are undamaged and appropriately rated.
  • Avoid charging under bedding, in direct sun or when the phone is unusually hot.
  • Confirm that overnight optimisation or charge limiting does not leave you without enough power for the next day.
