What about MVNOs?

An MVNO using a host network does not automatically inherit every feature. Wi‑Fi Calling may be supported only on selected tariffs, phones or SIM generations. Check the MVNO’s own documentation rather than the host network’s coverage alone.

Why a compatible phone may still fail

  • The regional model or firmware is not approved by the operator.
  • The account has not been provisioned.
  • The software or carrier settings are outdated.
  • The plan excludes the feature.
  • The active SIM line is not the one configured.
  • The Wi‑Fi network blocks or disrupts the connection.

Before switching network for this feature, test the exact combination you intend to use and ask the provider to confirm support in writing or through its device checker.

Questions to ask before switching

Confirm support for your model, tariff type, SMS over Wi‑Fi, Dual-SIM use and any business or PAYG restrictions. Also ask whether the feature is officially supported abroad and how emergency-location information is handled. A network answering “yes, we have Wi‑Fi Calling” has not necessarily confirmed your particular combination.

Check the line and tariff, not only the network logo

A main network may support Wi‑Fi Calling broadly while an MVNO, legacy tariff or imported handset does not. Confirm the precise provider, plan and device combination and retain the answer if indoor calling is essential.

  • Check SMS over Wi‑Fi separately where relevant.
  • Verify Dual-SIM lines independently.
  • Recheck after a SIM replacement or tariff migration.
