How to Transfer Data Wirelessly Between Phones

When wireless transfer is sensible

• Both phones are available and can be unlocked.
• The batteries are healthy or both can stay on charge.
• You have a stable local Wi‑Fi or direct device-to-device connection.
• The data set is moderate and there is no urgent deadline.

Prepare the transfer

1. Back up the old phone.
2. Turn off battery-saving modes that may interrupt setup.
3. Place the phones together and connect them to power.
4. Start the transfer from the new phone’s setup flow.
5. Approve pairing and choose the data to copy.
6. Avoid calls, restarts and moving out of range until the main copy ends.

Wireless does not mean cloud-only

Apple Quick Start and many Android setup tools can establish a direct local connection. Other content may still download later from iCloud, Google or the app provider. Keep internet access available after the first stage.

Check for incomplete categories

Look for missing older photos, message history, downloads, offline maps, voice recordings and app-specific files. If one category is incomplete, use its official export, cloud-sync or cable method instead of repeating the entire migration blindly.

Control the conditions that make wireless transfer reliable

Wireless migration is convenient, but interference, low battery, screen locking and a poor local connection can interrupt it. Place both phones close together, connect power and keep unnecessary network activity low.

• Use the official setup tool for the exact source and destination platforms.
• Keep Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled when required, even if the transfer creates its own connection.
• Do not use either phone for calls, camera work or large downloads during migration.
• If the process restarts, check for duplicates before launching another full copy.

A wireless transfer can continue with background downloads after setup. Wait for synchronisation to settle and test essential data before wiping the old phone.
