Block and report spam without replying, clicking or confirming that your number is active.
For suspicious texts
- Do not open links or attachments.
- Take note of the sender and message.
- Forward the text to 7726 where supported.
- Use the messaging app’s block and report tools.
- Delete it only after retaining evidence needed for a fraud report.
Do not reply to scams
Replying “STOP” is suitable only for a legitimate marketing sender that you recognise. With an unknown or fraudulent sender, a reply may confirm that the number is active.
If personal information was shared
- Change affected passwords.
- Contact the bank or card provider.
- Tell the mobile provider if account takeover is possible.
- Report fraud through the appropriate UK channel.
Reduce future exposure
Limit public posting of the mobile number, review marketing consent and use separate contact details for high-risk online listings where practical.
Separate nuisance marketing from fraud
A legitimate company should identify itself and provide a lawful opt-out. A scam may imitate that wording. When uncertain, do not reply; verify the organisation independently and report the message through the appropriate route.
Preserve evidence before deleting
A suspicious message can help the operator or bank investigate. Do not interact with it, but record what arrived.
- Forward eligible UK spam texts to 7726 before deletion.
- Block the sender after reporting, while recognising that numbers can be spoofed.
- If you entered credentials or payment data, contact the real organisation through its official app or website immediately.
