Enable Find My before the phone is lost, verify that the device appears in the account, and protect the Apple Account recovery path.
Set it up
- Open Settings and tap the Apple Account name.
- Open Find My, then Find My iPhone.
- Enable Find My iPhone and the supported Find My network options.
- Enable Send Last Location where available.
Check that it really works
- Open Find My on another trusted Apple device or use iCloud.com/find.
- Confirm the correct iPhone appears.
- Check that its current or recent location is shown.
- Make sure the trusted number and recovery information are current.
Security choices
Use a strong passcode and turn on Stolen Device Protection on supported iPhones. Hide sensitive notification previews. Do not share the Apple Account password with a “finder” or anyone claiming that Activation Lock must be removed.
If the phone is later sold
Removing a device from Find My is appropriate only after a legitimate handover, backup and erase. It is not appropriate while a stolen phone remains missing.
Repeat this check after changes
Recheck Find My after changing Apple Account, restoring the iPhone, replacing the SIM/eSIM or disabling Location Services. A setting that worked on the old phone is not proof that the replacement is protected.
Test access before the phone is lost
Find My is useful only if the Apple Account remains recoverable and the device appears under the correct owner.
- Confirm Find My network and Send Last Location settings where available.
- Open Find My from another trusted device or the web and identify the iPhone.
- Do not remove a stolen phone from Find My after erasing it, because that can remove Activation Lock.
