Use built-in controls

Use the Phone app or system settings to block a specific caller, silence unknown numbers or enable spam identification. Menu names vary by iPhone, Pixel, Samsung and other Android versions.

Keep important calls reachable

  • Maintain voicemail and check it.
  • Save expected medical, school and delivery numbers.
  • Temporarily relax filtering when awaiting a call.
  • Never trust caller ID alone; it can be spoofed.

Harassment or threats

Retain call logs and messages. Contact the network and police when calls are threatening, persistent or part of stalking or fraud.

Review the result after a week

Check voicemail and missed-call patterns. If too many genuine calls are being lost, move from blanket silencing to selective blocking or network spam identification. Keep a written record if the issue is harassment rather than ordinary nuisance calling.

Do not block calls you still need

Silencing unknown callers can reduce nuisance calls but may hide a doctor, delivery driver, school or fraud team using an unfamiliar number.

  • Review voicemail and missed-call notifications after enabling the feature.
  • Add important services and family numbers to contacts.
  • Use network or handset spam labelling for obvious abuse, and keep a route for legitimate callers to leave a message.
