Android can show per-app mobile-data use and warnings, but menu names and billing-cycle controls differ between Pixel, Samsung and other manufacturers.

Pixel

Open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs, then open app data usage or the displayed total. Choose the correct SIM on a Dual-SIM phone.

Samsung Galaxy

Open Settings > Connections > Data usage > Mobile data usage. Samsung also provides billing-cycle, warning and limit controls on supported software versions.

Set the correct cycle

Match the phone’s cycle start to the network billing date. Otherwise the graph may be accurate for the selected dates but useless for comparing with the allowance.

Investigate high use

  • Open the app list and compare foreground with background use.
  • Check hotspot/tethering separately.
  • Review cloud backup, video autoplay and app updates.
  • Check both SIMs and roaming periods.
  • Look for a newly installed or malfunctioning app.

Phone estimate versus bill

Android measures traffic locally; the operator measures billable traffic. Use the operator account for charges and the phone report to identify the likely source.

Background use needs interpretation

Background traffic is not automatically wasteful. Messaging, email, authentication, health and safety apps may need it. Investigate a sudden change or a clearly disproportionate app rather than restricting every background service.

If an app’s figure seems impossible, restart the phone, update the app and compare the next few days. Reinstall only after protecting its local data and login access.

A safe completion check

Set Android's billing-cycle date to match the provider before interpreting the graph. Review foreground, background and hotspot use by app, and check each SIM separately on Dual-SIM phones. Manufacturer totals can differ slightly from the network's charging record.

  • Confirm the correct SIM and cycle.
  • Investigate an app before restricting essential background functions.
  • Use provider records for billing disputes.
