Data rollover is plan-specific, not a permanent network-wide feature; check how much rolls over, for how long and what cancels it.

Current examples, not a universal table

EE offers rollover on eligible PAYG plans when renewal conditions are met. O2 includes rollover on selected PAYG, Plus and Ultimate plans, with product-specific limits. Vodafone advertises Total Rollover on eligible PAYG bundles. Other brands and MVNOs use their own rules.

Questions to ask before relying on it

  • Does the exact plan include rollover?
  • Does renewal have to occur on time or within a grace period?
  • Does rolled data expire after one cycle?
  • Is there a maximum amount?
  • Are bonuses, add-ons or promotional data excluded?
  • Does changing plan erase the balance?
  • Is roaming use included or separately capped?

Rollover is not always better value

A large allowance with unused data can still cost more than a smaller plan plus an occasional add-on. Compare several months of real use and the total price rather than treating rollover as free value.

Record the terms

Save the plan name and current terms when joining. Operator product ranges change, and a general network help page may not describe a legacy tariff correctly.

How rolled data is consumed matters

Some plans use rolled data before the new allowance; others use the new allowance first. The order affects whether any balance survives to the end of the cycle. Check the account rather than assuming the largest displayed total will remain available next month.

If rollover repeatedly builds up, it may be evidence that the base allowance is larger than necessary.

When the change is genuinely complete

Rollover has value only when the unused data survives under the reader's actual plan rules. Check how long it lasts, whether renewed bundles are required, which allowance is consumed first and what happens after a tariff change. A larger headline pot can be less useful than a smaller predictable allowance.

  • Save the current plan terms or account screenshot.
  • Check roaming and promotional data separately.
  • Review the balance immediately after renewal.
