If an eSIM appears on the phone but shows no service, the profile has probably downloaded but has not registered on a mobile network. The cause may be a disabled line, delayed provider activation, poor coverage, an account problem, roaming configuration or an incompatible device-and-network combination.
Confirm that the eSIM really exists on the phone
Open SIM or mobile-service settings and check that the provider profile is listed. If no profile appears, this is still a download problem. If it appears, do not scan the QR code again unless the provider tells you to.
Check the simple settings first
- Make sure the eSIM line is switched on.
- Turn Flight mode on for around 15 seconds, then turn it off.
- Restart the phone once.
- Set network selection to automatic unless the provider has named a specific partner network.
- Install any pending system or provider-settings update.
Allow the phone a few minutes to register after a fresh activation or restart.
Check coverage and outages
- Move near a window or outdoors to separate an indoor-signal problem from an activation problem.
- Check the provider's current service-status page using Wi-Fi.
- Ask another customer on the same network whether service is available nearby.
- Check that the destination or local partner network is covered if you are abroad.
Coverage maps are estimates. A map showing service does not guarantee usable indoor reception at one address.
Confirm the provider has activated the right device
The account may show an eSIM order without the profile being fully provisioned. Contact the provider and ask it to confirm:
- the line is active and not suspended;
- the correct telephone number is attached;
- the correct IMEI or EID is on the account;
- there is no pending number transfer;
- the plan supports the phone and network feature being used.
Record the exact status text shown on the phone, such as No Service, SOS or Emergency Calls Only. These labels do not by themselves identify the cause.
If you are using Dual SIM
- Confirm that the intended line is enabled.
- Check whether both plans are from supported providers.
- For an older or imported phone, confirm that it is unlocked.
- Temporarily turn the other line off to see whether the eSIM can register by itself.
- Restart the phone, then turn the second line back on after the eSIM connects.
Do not delete either profile simply to change the preferred line.
If you are abroad
Confirm that the plan includes the destination and that the provider has enabled roaming. A travel eSIM may require data roaming to be switched on because it connects through partner networks. A UK line may need roaming enabled as well, but doing so can create charges. Check both providers' current terms before changing the setting.
Do not test emergency services
Do not call 999 or 112 to check whether the line has signal. Make an ordinary call to a trusted number. If you make an emergency call accidentally, do not simply hang up; tell the call handler that it was accidental.
When network settings may help
A mobile-network reset can correct corrupted network configuration, but it may remove saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, VPN settings or other connection preferences. Record what you need first, then use the manufacturer's current reset instructions. A full factory reset is not an appropriate early step for an eSIM registration problem.
When to ask for a replacement eSIM
A replacement may be necessary when the provider confirms that the profile is damaged, assigned to the wrong EID or stuck in its activation system. Obtain explicit instructions before deleting the existing profile. Removing it from the phone does not cancel the contract and may leave you with no working activation method.
Verify recovery
- Check that the network name and signal indicator appear.
- Make an ordinary call.
- Receive a return call.
- Send and receive a normal text if SMS is included.
- Turn Wi-Fi off and test mobile data separately.
The point to verify before relying on it
Because the profile is already installed, focus on registration rather than repeating the download. Confirm the line is enabled, the account shows activation, the phone is not barred and the location has service. Compare another location or known-working SIM only when it isolates the fault without risking the active profile.
- Record the displayed network and exact status message.
- Check whether calls, SMS and data all fail or only one service.
- Contact the provider before deleting the profile.
