Wi-Fi Calling must be supported separately by the phone, software, network and plan for each line. A Dual-SIM phone supporting Wi-Fi Calling does not guarantee that both numbers will work identically.
Four things must match
- Device: the exact model must support Wi-Fi Calling.
- Software: current system and carrier settings may be required.
- Network: the provider must support the model and provision the line.
- Plan: PAYG, business or older tariffs may have different eligibility.
Repeat these checks for each line. Two SIMs in the same phone can have different Wi-Fi Calling results.
Enable and verify one line at a time
- Connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network.
- Open the selected line's settings.
- Turn on Wi-Fi Calling and complete any required address confirmation.
- Wait for the Wi-Fi Calling indicator or provider status.
- Make a normal call with the line label visible.
- Repeat for the second line.
Why the second line may still be unavailable
Dual-SIM phones often use dual standby. If one line is on a call, the other line's reachability depends on the device, network and call configuration. Wi-Fi Calling can help in some supported setups, but it is not a universal method of making both lines continuously active.
Emergency-call caution
Do not call 999 or 112 merely to test Wi-Fi Calling. Apple notes that emergency calls may use Wi-Fi Calling when mobile service is unavailable and may use device location. Follow the network's address-registration instructions and keep the address current where required. For any real emergency, use the fastest available method and explain your location clearly.
Troubleshooting in a safe order
- Confirm Wi-Fi Calling is enabled for the correct line.
- Install current software and carrier updates.
- Restart the phone.
- Try another trusted Wi-Fi connection.
- Check provider eligibility for the exact model and plan.
- Contact the network before resetting network settings or deleting an eSIM.
What to confirm before the old setup is removed
Check Wi‑Fi Calling per line, not per handset. A Dual-SIM phone can show the feature for one network while the other line lacks account provisioning or approved firmware. With mobile signal weak but Wi‑Fi stable, make and receive an ordinary call on each line and watch the line-specific indicator.
- Confirm emergency-address requirements with each provider.
- Repeat the test after a restart.
- Do not use 999 or 112 as a test call.
