5G Coverage by UK Network

There is no single “best 5G network” for every UK address: compare the four operator maps and then test the exact places that matter.

There is no single “best 5G network” for every UK address: compare the four operator maps and then test the exact places that matter.

What the maps can tell you

EE, O2, Vodafone and Three publish predicted coverage. Their maps use different presentation methods and thresholds, so a coloured area on one map is not directly equivalent to the same colour on another.

How to compare fairly

  1. Enter the full postcode on each main network’s official checker.
  2. Compare outdoor and indoor predictions separately where available.
  3. Check 4G as well as 5G because the phone will use 4G outside 5G coverage and often for voice.
  4. Check service status for temporary faults or engineering work.
  5. Test inside the property, at work and on the regular route before committing.

Do not compare only the main brand

An MVNO uses a host network’s radio coverage, but access to 5G, Wi‑Fi Calling, VoLTE, roaming and speed policies can differ. Confirm the exact plan rather than assuming every brand on the same infrastructure is identical.

Record evidence that helps

  • Phone model and software version.
  • Network and plan.
  • Room or outdoor location.
  • Time and date.
  • Whether the phone showed 4G, 5G or 5G Standalone.
  • A normal task that failed, not only a speed-test result.

Coverage and capacity are different

A map may predict that a 5G signal reaches an area without showing how a busy cell performs at 17:30. Conversely, a modest 4G prediction can still provide dependable calls and ordinary browsing. Compare service at the times when it matters, not only on a quiet afternoon.

For a house move or long contract, test more than one room and an outdoor point. Thick walls, coated glass and lower-ground floors can change the result sharply.

What should be recorded before the old setup is removed

Compare the four network maps for the precise places that matter, then test the shortlisted network indoors. A city-level 5G claim does not describe a particular room, commuting route or busy evening. The useful comparison records 4G fallback, upload, latency and call reliability alongside the 5G result.

  • Check home, work and one regular journey.
  • Repeat at a busy time if capacity matters.
  • Use a cancellable SIM or return route for the real-world test.
