Share through the platform’s family system rather than giving relatives one password or using one account on every phone.
Check eligibility
- Whether the app or subscription supports family sharing
- How many family members are allowed
- Whether purchases or only the subscription are shared
- Whether the organiser’s payment method will be used
- Country or region restrictions
Apple families
Use Family Sharing for eligible Apple services and third-party subscriptions that support it. Each person should remain signed in with their own Apple Account.
Google families
Use a Google family group and Google Play family features where available. Purchase approvals and sharing apply only to supported Google Play billing and content.
Avoid account sharing
Sharing a login can expose photos, email, backups, payment information and recovery controls. It can also breach the service’s terms and make separation difficult later.
Check the subscription itself
A service can use its own family system rather than Apple or Google sharing. Read the provider’s current household, age, region and simultaneous-use terms before paying.
Check eligibility, ownership and privacy before sharing
Not every app, in-app purchase or subscription supports family sharing. The organiser’s payment method and purchase history may also become more visible than expected.
- Confirm the service explicitly supports family access and the number of members.
- Keep each person on a separate Apple or Google account.
- Review whether personal files, listening history or profiles remain separate.
- Check what happens when someone leaves the family group.
Do not repurchase until the shared entitlement has been tested on the other account. A family plan can still require separate activation inside the app.
