Use the provider’s official recovery process and any pre-existing trusted device, passkey, security key, recovery email or number; there is no legitimate universal tool that can bypass 2FA.
Try existing trust first
- Use a device or browser where the account is already signed in.
- Look for a registered passkey or security key.
- Use a trusted recovery phone or email.
- Check whether another administrator can restore access to a work or family account.
- Open the provider’s official recovery page.
Give consistent evidence
Use a familiar device, browser and location where possible. Supply accurate historic information. Do not invent answers or repeatedly change recovery details while the provider is reviewing the request.
Avoid recovery scams
No third party can legitimately “generate” an authenticator code without the secret or override the provider’s controls. Do not pay for account hacking, remote-access software or unofficial support.
After recovery
- change the password if compromise is possible;
- review sessions and forwarding rules;
- remove unknown recovery methods;
- create new backup codes;
- add at least two independent recovery routes.
Use the service’s official recovery route and expect stronger checks
Recovery without a second factor may be deliberately slow. Start from a familiar device, browser and location where possible, and provide only information requested by the genuine service.
- Check for another signed-in device, trusted number, recovery email, passkey or hardware key.
- Use the official account-recovery page typed or opened from the provider’s own site.
- Preserve purchase receipts or organisational records that the provider legitimately accepts.
- Do not pay a third party that claims it can bypass 2FA or recover the account through an insider.
Once access returns, add more than one recovery method and generate a fresh code set. Review recent sessions and security changes because the loss of access may have followed an attack.
